According to the recent report from WSJ, Google has distributed the Google Maps application for iOS to testers ahead of its submission in App Store. According to the sources close to the matter, Google has been testing the application from quite sometime for final touches and it’s the first time when the company has sent the application outside for testing purpose to some individuals.
Once the testing is complete and everything’s ready, Google might be all set to submit the application to App Store. After the much criticism to Apple’s maps which are almost unusable in certain countries, this would compete with the company’s own mapping solution directly. However, it’s yet to be seen if Apple would approve the application or not when it’s being submitted to Apple for approval.
Due to the fact that Nokia has also submitted Nokia Maps based on HTML solution which would also work offline with limited feature compared to other Nokia devices, we expect that Apple would have no option beside showing off a green flag. Of course, until there are some different terms and condition for Google under Apple’s developer program. Nevertheless, the things would become more clearer in coming days. Before that, you could always choose from various other alternatives being suggested by Apple in App Store categories.
